Position Overview 

Seeking a skilled Substation Relay Technician to perform installation, testing, commissioning, calibration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of substation protection and control systems ranging from 15kV to 500kV environments. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Install, test, maintain, and repair substation relays and control equipment 
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance using relay test sets and diagnostic equipment 
  • Calibrate and troubleshoot induction, static, and microprocessor relays 
  • Conduct commissioning and acceptance testing of substations 
  • Diagnose and correct electrical troubles in circuits and equipment 
  • Perform switching operations and report abnormal conditions 
  • Inspect substations and document equipment data and load reports 
  • Test and maintain remote alarms and substation equipment 
  • Assist Commissioning Engineers with testing and calibration 
  • Modify AC and DC control circuit wiring as needed 
  • Operate bucket trucks and aerial lift equipment when required 

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years relay testing and substation commissioning experience (15kV to 500kV) 
  • Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship 
  • Ability to travel nationwide with overnight stays 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word 
  • Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent experience 
  • Strong electrical and mechanical aptitude 
  • Ability to analyze electrical control and protection systems 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Onsite relay testing experience with utilities 
  • Full lifecycle substation commissioning experience 
  • Experience troubleshooting protection equipment 
  • Familiarity with Double Protection, ProTest, AcSELerator, or Renoserv 
  • Experience with lightning shielding and grounding plans 
  • Strong communication skills with ability to lead client meetings
