Role Snapshot
The Plant Controller is responsible for overseeing day-to-day financial operations while acting as a strategic business partner to plant leadership and operations. This role manages core accounting functions, ensures GAAP compliance, leads cost accounting initiatives, and provides financial insights to drive cost savings and operational efficiency. The Plant Controller reports directly to the CFO and oversees two direct reports.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership, management, and accountability for all direct reports
- Oversee month-end and year-end close including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations
- Maintain the general ledger in compliance with GAAP/IFRS and corporate policies
- Investigate and resolve cost and inventory accounting discrepancies
- Develop and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard company assets
- Serve as primary contact for external auditors and support audit processes
- Partner with operations and production leaders to develop annual budgets
- Perform detailed financial analysis on production costs, scrap, labor efficiency, and CAPEX
- Lead all cost accounting activities including standard costing and variance analysis
- Support capital budgeting, ROI analysis, and financial modeling for strategic decisions
- Identify cost-saving opportunities with operations and track financial impact
- Evaluate financial impact of new products, automation, and process changes
- Support tax filings including corporate income, property, and sales/use taxes
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across finance and manufacturing operations
- Remain flexible to take on additional responsibilities as needed
Education & Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required)
- 3+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience
- 2+ years of experience or exposure in a manufacturing environment using cost accounting
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, cost accounting, and internal controls
- Experience working with ERP systems and supporting audits
- Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Professional certification (CPA, CMA, or MBA) preferred
- 2+ years of leadership or supervisory experience is a plus
