Role Snapshot
The Machinist will set up and operate manual and CNC machines to fabricate metallic and non-metallic parts in a job shop environment. This is a hands-on, first-shift role requiring a strong machining background across mills, lathes, and special-purpose equipment. The role supports daily production, custom setups, and precision machining to print.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret blueprints, drawings, specifications, and sample parts to determine dimensions, tolerances, and setup requirements
- Measure, mark, and layout material for machining operations
- Set up and operate manual and CNC mills, lathes, and drill presses
- Select and secure tooling, fixtures, and attachments appropriate for each job
- Calculate speeds, feeds, chip loads, and cutting parameters
- Monitor machining operations and adjust controls to maintain quality and tolerance
- Perform trial runs to verify accuracy of machine settings
- Inspect finished parts to ensure conformance to specifications
- Assemble machined components and verify alignment and dimensions
- Build and use fixtures for drilling, milling, and turning
- Communicate machining or design issues with engineering, production, and sales teams
- Verify accuracy of engineering and manufacturing inputs to ensure customer requirements are met
Education & Experience Requirements
- Associate’s degree or completed apprenticeship in Machining, Tool & Die, or related field
- 3–5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
- 4+ years of job shop machining experience preferred
- Strong experience with both manual and CNC machining
- Hands-on experience with mills and lathes is required
- Ability to single-point thread ID, OD, and taper pipe threads
- Ability to calculate and apply speeds, feeds, and tooling geometry
- Ability to sharpen drills and cutting tools
- Strong understanding of tolerances, fits, and surface finishes
- Ability to machine parts to print independently
- Experience working in a quality-driven manufacturing environment
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills
