About the Opportunity
We are recruiting on behalf of a respected law firm seeking an experienced Legal Assistant to join their Manhattan office. This role provides essential administrative and document support to attorneys and paralegals, ensuring deadlines are met and client needs are exceeded in a fast-paced legal environment.
Position Overview
The Legal Assistant will deliver high-level administrative, organizational, and client support. This position requires strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide proactive administrative support to attorneys and legal teams
- Edit and proofread legal and administrative documents for accuracy and consistency
- Manage CLE credit tracking, calendaring, expense reimbursements, and scheduling
- Greet clients, coordinate meetings, and manage professional correspondence
- File documents electronically with courts and maintain organized case files
- Support billing processes including time entry and report preparation
- Monitor deadlines and ensure timely follow-up on pending matters
- Communicate with court personnel, attorneys, and staff as required
Required Qualifications (Must-Haves)
- Minimum of 3 years of legal assistant or legal administrative experience in a law firm or legal setting
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Experience proofreading and editing complex legal documents with high attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Professional written and verbal communication skills with client-facing experience
- Experience with electronic court filing systems
Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Have)
- Familiarity with legal software such as Kofax/Nuance, InTapp, LMS+, or iManage
- Experience supporting multiple attorneys simultaneously
- Experience tracking CLE credits, managing expense reimbursements, or assisting with billing
- Knowledge of litigation procedures, probate processes, or other legal specialties
